فَإِذا جالَستَهُ صَدَّرتَهُ

فَإِذا جالَستَهُ صَدَّرتَهُ

وَتَنَحَّيتَ لَهُ في الحاشِيَه

وَتَنَحَّيتَ لَهُ في الحاشِيَه

So when you sit with him, you give him the place of honor,

When you sit with him, you give him precedence

and move aside for him to the edge.

And you move aside for him on the cushion

وَإِذا سايَرتَهُ قَدَّمتَهُ

وَإِذا سايَرتَهُ قَدَّمتَهُ

وَتَأَخَّرتَ مَعَ المُستَأنِيَه

وَتَأَخَّرتَ مَعَ المُستَأنِيَه

And when you walk with him, you let him go ahead,

And when you walk with him, you let him go first

and hang back with the unhurried.

And you walk behind with those who come later

وَإِذا ياسَرتَهُ صادَفتَهُ

وَإِذا ياسَرتَهُ صادَفتَهُ

سَلِسَ الخُلقِ سَليمَ الناحِيَه

سَلِسَ الخُلقِ سَليمَ الناحِيَه

And when you treat him gently, you find him

And when he makes things easy for you, you find him

easy in temper, sound in disposition.

Gentle in manners, sound in health

وَإِذا عاسَرتَه أَلفَيتَهُ

وَإِذا عاسَرتَه أَلفَيتَهُ

شَرِسَ الرَأيِ أَبِيّاً داهِيَه

شَرِسَ الرَأيِ أَبِيّاً داهِيَه

And when you deal harshly with him, you find him

And when he makes things difficult for you, you find him

fierce in judgment, unyielding, and cunning.

Stubborn in opinion, obstinate in his ways

فَاِحمَدِ اللَهَ عَلى صُحبَتِهِ

فَاِحمَدِ اللَهَ عَلى صُحبَتِهِ

وَاِسأَلِ الرَحمَنَ مِنهُ العافِيَه

وَاِسأَلِ الرَحمَنَ مِنهُ العافِيَه

So praise God for his companionship,

So thank Allah for his companionship

and ask the Most Merciful for safety from him.

And ask the Merciful One for wellbeing from Him
