فَلَوso if أَنَّنيthat I أَصبَحتُI became فيin جودِgenerosity of مالِكٍMalik
فَلَو أَنَّني أَصبَحتُ في جودِ مالِكٍ
وَعِزَّتِهِand his glory ماnot نالَattained ذَلِكَthat مَطلَبيmy desire
وَعِزَّتِهِ ما نالَ ذَلِكَ مَطلَبي
So, were I to find myself amid Malik’s bounty
If only I possessed the generosity of Malik
And his glory, that would not fulfill my desire.
By his honor, that would not fulfill my desire
فَتىًa young man شَقِيَتsuffered أَموالُهُhis wealth بِسَماحِهِthrough his generosity
فَتىً شَقِيَت أَموالُهُ بِسَماحِهِ
كَماjust as شَقِيَتsuffered قَيسٌQays بِأَرماحِby the spears of تَغلِبِTaghlib
كَما شَقِيَت قَيسٌ بِأَرماحِ تَغلِبِ
A young man whose wealth suffered from his generosity,
A young man whose wealth was ruined by his generosity
Just as Qays suffered from Taghlib’s spears.
