ياO سَلمَSalm ذاتَpossessor of الوُضَّحِgleaming-white teeth العِذابِsweet
وَرَبَّةَand lady of المِعصَمِthe wrist ذيbearing الخِضابِhenna dye
O Salm, with sweet, gleaming-white teeth,
O palm tree with clear beauty
And lady of the henna-stained wrist,
And mistress with braceleted wrists dyed red
وَالكَفَلِand the buttocks الرَجراجِquivering فيwithin الحِقابِthe girdle
وَالفاحِمِand coal-black hair الأَسوَدِblack كَالغُرابِlike a raven
And of buttocks that quiver within a girdle,
And curled locks swaying in plaits
And of coal-black hair, dark as a raven—
And intensely black like a raven
بِحَقِّfor the sake of تِلكَthose القُبَلِkisses الطِيابِsweet
بَعدَafter التَجَنّيunjust blame مِنكِfrom you وَالعِتابِand reproach
For the sake of those sweet kisses,
By the right of those sweet kisses
After your unjust blame and reproaches,
After withdrawing from me and blaming
إِلّاdo (in entreaty) كَشَفتِyou relieve اليَومَtoday عَنّيfrom me ماwhat بيis afflicting me
جاءَhas come مَشيبيmy gray hair وَمَضىand has passed شَبابيmy youth
Do relieve me today of what ails me.
If only you would uncover me today as I am
My gray hair has come, and my youth has passed;
My gray hair has come and my youth is gone
وَزالَand has departed عَنّيfrom me أَهوَجُreckless التَصابيyouthful dalliance
فَلَمso did not أَجُزI stray عَنfrom مَنهَجِthe path of الصَوابِright conduct
And reckless youthful dalliance has left me;
And the madness of my passion has left me
So I have not strayed from the path of right conduct.
So I did not deviate from the path of right
