ياO آلَfamily of بَيتِhouse of المُصطَفىthe Chosen One
يا آلَ بَيتِ المُصطَفى
ياO أَهلَpeople of مَكَّةَMecca وَالصَفاand al-Safa
يا أَهلَ مَكَّةَ وَالصَفا
O family of the Chosen One's House,
O house of Al-Mustafa
O people of Mecca and al-Safa,
O people of Mecca and Safa
ياO خَيرَbest of مَنthose who قَدalready حَجَّmade pilgrimage لِلto the
يا خَيرَ مَن قَد حَجَّ لِل
بَيتِHouse الحَرامِsacred وَعَرَّفاand stood at Arafat
بَيتِ الحَرامِ وَعَرَّفا
O best of those who have made pilgrimage to
O best of those who performed Hajj
the Sacred House and stood at Arafat,
To the Sacred House and got to know it
ياO خَيرَbest of مَنthose who لَبِسَwore النِعاthe sandals (first part)
يا خَيرَ مَن لَبِسَ النِعا
لَcompletion of 'sandals' بِسَعيِهِin his walking وَمَنand those who اِحتَفىwent barefoot
لَ بِسَعيِهِ وَمَن اِحتَفى
O best of those who wore sandals
O best of those who wore the Ihram
as they walked, and of those who went barefoot,
Not with his effort, but was granted success
خانَbetrayed الزَمانُTime بِكُمyou عَلىin
خانَ الزَمانُ بِكُم عَلى
رَغمِspite of الرَشادِright guidance وَماand not وَفىkept faith
رَغمِ الرَشادِ وَما وَفى
Time betrayed you, in
Time has betrayed you
spite of your right guidance, and kept no faith.
Despite guidance, it did not fulfill
فَلَوfor if أَنَّthat أَيدِيَكُمyour hands تُمَare extended (first part)
فَلَو أَنَّ أَيدِيَكُم تُمَ
دُّcompletion of 'are extended' إِلىtoward إِناءٍa vessel لَاِنكَفاit would overturn
دُّ إِلى إِناءٍ لَاِنكَفا
For if your hands were extended
If only your hands would extend
toward a vessel, it would overturn.
To a vessel, it would not refrain
وَثَبَsprang الزَمانُTime بِكُمupon you فَشَتَّso it scattered (first part)
وَثَبَ الزَمانُ بِكُم فَشَتَّ
تَcompletion of 'scattered' مِنكُمُamong you ماwhat أُلِّفاhad been united
تَ مِنكُمُ ما أُلِّفا
Time sprang upon you and so scattered
And time has recovered through you
what had been united among you,
What was lost from you
حَتّىuntil لَقَدindeed أَصبَحتُمُyou have become
حَتّى لَقَد أَصبَحتُمُ
مِمّاof what يُخافُis feared عَلىon شَفاthe brink
مِمّا يُخافُ عَلى شَفا
until, indeed, you have come to be
To the point you have become
on the brink of what is feared.
