سَقياًa blessing of rain وَرَعياًand care لِأَيّامِfor the days of الصَباباتِpassionate longings
أَيّامَdays when أَرفُلُI strut فيin أَثوابِthe robes of لَذّاتيmy delights
May rain and care bless the days of passionate longing,
Water bearer and shepherd of the days of youth
Days when I strutted in the robes of my delights,
Days when I revel in the clothes of my pleasures
أَيّامَdays when غُصنيmy branch رَطيبٌfresh مِنfrom لُدونَتِهِits suppleness
أَصبوI yearn إِلىfor غَيرِother than جاراتٍfemale neighbors وَكَنّاتِand daughters- or sisters-in-law
Days when my branch was fresh in its suppleness,
Days when my branch is fragrant from its freshness
I yearned for women other than neighbors and kinswomen by marriage.
I yearn for those other neighborhoods and homes
دَعleave عَنكَaside from you ذِكرَthe memory of زَمانٍa time فاتَhas passed beyond reach مَطلَبُهُits desired goal

Leave aside the memory of a time whose desired goal is beyond reach,
Leave behind talk of a time whose quest has passed
And leap with both feet from the back of folly.
And cast your feet away from the saddle of ignorance
وَاِقصِدand aim بِكُلِّwith every مَديحٍpoem of praise أَنتَyou قائِلُهُits utterer

And direct every poem of praise you utter
And intend with any praise you say
Toward the guides, sons of the house of noble deeds.
Toward the guides, people of the house of nobility
