لاmay not أَضحَكَmake smile اللَهُGod سِنَّthe tooth الدَهرِof Time إِنif ضَحِكَتit smiles
لا أَضحَكَ اللَهُ سِنَّ الدَهرِ إِن ضَحِكَت
وَآلُand the family of أَحمَدَAhmad مَظلومونَoppressed قَدalready قُهِرواthey have been subdued
وَآلُ أَحمَدَ مَظلومونَ قَد قُهِروا
May God never make Time’s tooth smile, should it smile,
May God not let the days laugh long if they laugh
While Ahmad’s family are oppressed and have been subdued,
The family of Ahmed are oppressed, overpowered
مُشَرَّدونَscattered نُفواthey were banished عَنfrom عُقرِthe heart of دارِهِمُtheir home
مُشَرَّدونَ نُفوا عَن عُقرِ دارِهِمُ
كَأَنَّهُمas though they قَدalready جَنَواthey committed ماwhat لَيسَis not يُغتَفَرُforgiven
كَأَنَّهُم قَد جَنَوا ما لَيسَ يُغتَفَرُ
Scattered, banished from the heart of their home,
Scattered, exiled from the homes they love
As though they had committed what cannot be forgiven.
As if they have committed what cannot be forgiven
