كَأَنَّماas though نَفسُهُhis soul مِنfrom طولِthe length of حَيرَتِهاits bewilderment
كَأَنَّما نَفسُهُ مِن طولِ حَيرَتِها
مِنهاfrom it عَلىagainst نَفسِهِhimself يَومَon the day of الوَغىbattle رَصَدُa watch; a lookout
مِنها عَلى نَفسِهِ يَومَ الوَغى رَصَدُ
It is as though his soul, from its long bewilderment,
As if his soul in bewildered turmoil long
were a watch set by itself against him on the day of battle.
Upon itself that day of panic kept watch
