إِنَّindeed أَباAbu (father of) سَعدٍSaʿd فَتىًa young man شاعِرٌa poet
إِنَّ أَبا سَعدٍ فَتىً شاعِرٌ
يُعرَفُis known بِالكُنيَةِby the kunya (parental byname) لاnot الوالِدِthe father
يُعرَفُ بِالكُنيَةِ لا الوالِدِ
Indeed, Abu Saʿd is a young poet,
Indeed Abu Sa'd is a poet youth
Known by his byname, not by his father.
Known by nickname, not father
يَنشُدُhe seeks فيamong حَيٍّa tribe مَعَدٍّMaʿadd أَباa father
يَنشُدُ في حَيٍّ مَعَدٍّ أَبا
ضَلَّhas gone missing عَنfrom المَنشودِthe one questioned وَالناشِدِand the seeker
ضَلَّ عَن المَنشودِ وَالناشِدِ
He seeks among the tribe of Maʿadd a father
He recites in Ma'add quarter, of Abu
Who is lost to both the one questioned and the seeker.
Who strayed from desired and desirer
فَرَحمَةُso mercy اللَهِGod عَلىupon مُسلِمٍa Muslim
فَرَحمَةُ اللَهِ عَلى مُسلِمٍ
أَرشَدَguided مَفقوداًa missing person إِلىto فاقِدِone who has lost him
أَرشَدَ مَفقوداً إِلى فاقِدِ
So may God's mercy be upon a Muslim
So God's mercy on a Muslim
Who guides the missing man to the one who has lost him.
Who guided a lost one to seeker
