شَهِدتُ الرَقاشِيَّ في مَجلِسٍ

شَهِدتُ الرَقاشِيَّ في مَجلِسٍ

وَكانَ إِلَيَّ بَغيضاً مَقيتا

وَكانَ إِلَيَّ بَغيضاً مَقيتا

I saw al-Raqashi at a gathering,

I saw Raqashi in an assembly

and to me he was hateful and loathsome.

Though he was hateful and abhorrent to me

فَقالَ اِقتَرِح يا أَبا جَعفَرٍ

فَقالَ اِقتَرِح يا أَبا جَعفَرٍ

فَقُلتُ اِقتَرَحتُ عَلَيكَ السُكوتا

فَقُلتُ اِقتَرَحتُ عَلَيكَ السُكوتا

Then he said, “Make a request, Abu Ja‘far.”

He said: "Suggest something, O Abu Ja'far"

So I said, “My request of you is silence.”

So I said: "I suggest to you silence"
