ياO عَجَباًwhat a wonder لِلمُرتَجيat the one hoping for فَضلَهُhis favor
يا عَجَباً لِلمُرتَجي فَضلَهُ
لَقَدindeed رَجاhe hoped for ماwhat لَيسَis not بِالنافِعِof use
لَقَد رَجا ما لَيسَ بِالنافِعِ
How astonishing that one should hope for his favor!
How strange is he who hopes for grace,
He has indeed hoped for what is of no use.
He hoped for what was of no use.
جِئناwe came بِهِwith him يَشفَعُhe intercedes فيin حاجَةٍa request
جِئنا بِهِ يَشفَعُ في حاجَةٍ
فَاِحتاجَso he needed فيin الإِذنِpermission to enter إِلىto شافِعِan intercessor
فَاِحتاجَ في الإِذنِ إِلى شافِعِ
We brought him to intercede over a request,
We brought him to intercede for a need,
Yet he needed an intercessor to gain admission.
Yet he needed intercession for permission.
