فَلَيسَfor … are not بُغاثُlowly kinds الطَيرِof birds مِثلَlike عِتاقِهاtheir noble ones
وَلَيسَand … are not الأُسودُthe lions الغُلبُthe thick-necked مِثلَlike الثَعالِبِthe foxes
For lowly birds are not like their noble kin.
Nor are thick-necked lions like foxes.
وَلَيسَand … are not العِصِيُّthe staffs الصُمُّthe solid ones كَالجَوفِlike hollow ones خِبرَةًwhen tested
وَلَيسَand … are not البُحورُthe seas فيin النَدىgenerosity كَالمَذانِبِlike rivulets
Nor are solid staffs like hollow ones when tested.
Nor are seas like rivulets in generosity.
