وَدَوِّيَّةٍand many a wilderness أَنضَيتُI wore out فيهاin it مَطِيَّتيmy mount
وَجيفاًswift trotting وَطَرفيand my gaze بِالسَماءِupon the sky مُوَكَّلُfixed
And in many a wilderness I wore out my mount,
at a swift trot, my gaze fixed upon the sky.
سَمِعتُI heard بِهاin it لِلجِنِّof the jinn فيat كُلِّevery ساعَةٍhour
عَزيفاًan eerie sound كَأَنَّas though القَلبُthe heart مِنهُby it مُخَبَّلُmaddened
There, at every hour, I heard from the jinn
an eerie sound, as though the heart were maddened by it.
