سَأَلتُ أَبي وَكانَ أَبي خَبيراً

بِسُكّانِ الجَزيرَةِ وَالسَوادِ

I asked my father, and my father was an expert

On the inhabitants of the peninsula and the black lands

فَقُلتُ لَهُ أَهَيثَمُ مِن غَنِيٍّ

فَقالَ كَأَحمَدَ اِبنِ أَبي داوُدِ

So I said to him, "Is Haitham from the wealthy?"

He said, "Like Ahmed the son of Abu Dawood."

فَإِن يَكُ هَيثَمٌ مِن جِذمِ قَيسٍ

فَأَحمَدُ غَيرَ شَكٍّ مِن إِيادِ

"If Haitham is from the lineage of Jidhm of Qais

Then Ahmed is without a doubt from Iyad."

مَتى كانَت إِيادُ تَريسُ قَوماً

لَقَد غَضِبَ الاِلَهُ عَلى العِبادِ

"When did the Iyad ever lead a people?

Indeed, God has been angry with his servants."
