إِمامُ هُدىً لِلَّهِ يَعمَلُ جاهِداً
I began, first, with praise of God and thanksgiving.
I began with praise of God and thanksgiving, first of all.
An imam of guidance, laboring diligently for God;
An imam of guidance, striving earnestly for God.

إِمامٌ سَما لِلدينِ حَتّى أَنارَهُ
piety is his treasure—and what a splendid treasure!
His treasures are piety—and excellent treasures they are.
An imam who rose aloft for the Faith until he illumined it,
An imam who rose high for the faith until he illumined it,

when its trace had already vanished, its very vestige fading away.
When its trace had faded away and its outline lay effaced.
Knowing what is to come, high-hearted and divinely guided;
Well aware of what he does, unbowed and granted success,

مُبيرٌ لِأَهلِ الجَورِ لِلحَقِّ ناصِرُ
a destroyer of the people of tyranny, a champion of truth.
A destroyer of the unjust, a champion of the truth.
