أَلا ما لِعَيني بِالدُموعِ اِستَهَلَّتِ

أَلا ما لِعَيني بِالدُموعِ اِستَهَلَّتِ

وَلَو نَفِدَت ماءُ الشُؤونِ لَقَلَّتِ

وَلَو نَفِدَت ماءُ الشُؤونِ لَقَلَّتِ

Ah, why has my eye begun to stream with tears?

And even if the tear ducts' water ran out, the tears would still be too few

عَلى مَن بَكَتهُ الأَرضُ وَاِستَرجَعَت لَهُ

عَلى مَن بَكَتهُ الأَرضُ وَاِستَرجَعَت لَهُ

رُؤوسُ الجِبالِ الشامِخاتِ وَذَلَّتِ

رُؤوسُ الجِبالِ الشامِخاتِ وَذَلَّتِ

For one whom the earth mourned, and for whom the words 'To God we belong and return' were spoken

By the peaks of the lofty mountains, which bowed low.

وَقَد أَعوَلَت تَبكي السَماءُ لِفَقدِهِ

وَقَد أَعوَلَت تَبكي السَماءُ لِفَقدِهِ

وَأَنجُمُها لاحَت عَلَيهِ وَكَلَّتِ

وَأَنجُمُها لاحَت عَلَيهِ وَكَلَّتِ

And the sky has wailed, weeping for his loss,

And its stars shone over him and grew weary.

فَنَحنُ عَلَيهِ اليَومَ أَجدَرُ بِالبُكا

فَنَحنُ عَلَيهِ اليَومَ أَجدَرُ بِالبُكا

لِمَرزِأَةٍ عَزَّت لَدَينا وَجَلَّتِ

لِمَرزِأَةٍ عَزَّت لَدَينا وَجَلَّتِ

So we have greater cause today to weep for him,

For a loss so grievous and immense to us.

رُزينا رَضِيَّ اللَهِ سِبطَ نَبِيِّنا

رُزينا رَضِيَّ اللَهِ سِبطَ نَبِيِّنا

فَأَخلَفَتِ الدُنيا لَهُ وَتَوَلَّتِ

فَأَخلَفَتِ الدُنيا لَهُ وَتَوَلَّتِ

We were bereaved of God's favored one, our Prophet's descendant;

So the world broke its promise to him and turned away.

وَما خَيرُ دُنيا بَعدَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

وَما خَيرُ دُنيا بَعدَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

أَلا لا نُباليها إِذا ما اِضمَحَلَّتِ

أَلا لا نُباليها إِذا ما اِضمَحَلَّتِ

And what good is this world after Muhammad's family?

Ah, we care nothing for it if it fades away.

تَجَلَّت مُصيباتُ الزَمانِ وَلا أَرى

تَجَلَّت مُصيباتُ الزَمانِ وَلا أَرى

مُصيبَتَنا بِالمُصطَفَينَ تَجَلَّتِ

مُصيبَتَنا بِالمُصطَفَينَ تَجَلَّتِ

Time's afflictions have lifted, yet I do not see

Our affliction over the chosen ones lifted.
