وَقالوا أَتَرجو الفَضلَ وَالبَحرُ دونَهُ

وَقالوا أَتَرجو الفَضلَ وَالبَحرُ دونَهُ

فَقُلتُ نَوالُ الفَضلِ يُحسِنُ يَسبَحُ

فَقُلتُ نَوالُ الفَضلِ يُحسِنُ يَسبَحُ

And they said, “Do you hope for al-Faḍl, with the sea barring the way to him?”

And they said, “Do you place your hopes in al-Fadl, with the sea between you and him?”

I said, “Al-Faḍl’s largesse knows how to swim.”

So I said, “Al-Fadl’s bounty knows well how to swim.”
