قَومٌa people إِذاwhen أَكَلواthey eat أَخفَواthey conceal كَلامَهُمُtheir speech
قَومٌ إِذا أَكَلوا أَخفَوا كَلامَهُمُ
وَاِستَوثَقواand they make certain مِنof رِتاجِthe bolting of البابِthe door وَالدارِand the house
وَاِستَوثَقوا مِن رِتاجِ البابِ وَالدارِ
A people who, when they eat, hush their speech,
And make sure the door and house are securely bolted.
لاnot يَقبِسُtakes a flame الجارُthe neighbor مِنهُمfrom them فَضلَthe surplus of نارِهِمُtheir fire
لا يَقبِسُ الجارُ مِنهُم فَضلَ نارِهِمُ
وَلاand not تُكَفُّis restrained يَدٌa hand عَنfrom حُرمَةِthe sanctity of الجارِthe neighbor
وَلا تُكَفُّ يَدٌ عَن حُرمَةِ الجارِ
No neighbor takes a flame from their surplus fire,
And no hand is restrained from violating a neighbor’s sanctity.
