إِذاwhen القَوسُthe bow وَتَّرَهاstrings it أَيِّدٌa strong man
إِذا القَوسُ وَتَّرَها أَيِّدٌ
رَمىhe shoots فَأَصابَand so strikes الكُلىthe kidneys وَالذُراand the heights
رَمى فَأَصابَ الكُلى وَالذُرا
When a strong man strings the bow,
he shoots, striking kidneys and heights,
وَأَحياand revives بِبَلدَتِهِin his homeland بَلدَةًa town
وَأَحيا بِبَلدَتِهِ بَلدَةً
عَفَتlay desolate بَعدَafter أَنthat قَدalready عَفاهاeffaced it الصَرىthe stagnant water
عَفَت بَعدَ أَن قَد عَفاها الصَرى
and in his homeland revives a town
that lay desolate after stagnant water had effaced it.
