صَدِّقهُBelieve him إِنif قالَhe says وَهُوَwhile he is مُحتَفِلٌin earnest
صَدِّقهُ إِن قالَ وَهُوَ مُحتَفِلٌ
إِنِّيَindeed I am مِنof تَغلِبٍTaghlib فَماfor not كَذَباhe lied
إِنِّيَ مِن تَغلِبٍ فَما كَذَبا
Believe him if he says, in earnest,
Believe him if he speaks while being cheerful,
“I am of Taghlib”—for he has not lied.
I am from Taghlib, so I do not lie,
مَنwho ذاthis one يُناويهِrivals him فيin مَناسِبِهِhis ancestry
مَن ذا يُناويهِ في مَناسِبِهِ
فَماfor not اِستُanus كَلبٍof a dog يَرضىwould be content بِذاwith this نَسَباas ancestry
فَما اِستُ كَلبٍ يَرضى بِذا نَسَبا
Who would rival him in his ancestry?
Who can match him in his character?
For not even a dog's anus would accept this as its pedigree.
I am not a dog content with this lineage.
