صَدٌّa rebuff قَبيحٌugly وَلَفظٌand speech لَيسَis not بِالحَسَنِat all good
I offered praise to men whose cooking pot lay behind
An ugly rebuff and words far from kind.
فَلَمso did not أَفُرcome away مِنهُمُfrom them إِلّاexcept كَماas much as حَمَلَتcarried

So I came away from them with no more than what
A mosquito’s leg carried from an earthenware jar of milk.
