إِنَّindeed اِبنَson of زَيّاتٍZayyat لَهُhe has قَينَةٌa singing slave-girl
أَربَتshe surpassed عَلىbeyond الشَيطانِSatan فيin القُبحِugliness
Indeed, Ibn Zayyat has a singing slave-girl,
Who has surpassed Satan in ugliness.
سَوداءُblack شَوهاءُhideous لَهاshe has شِعرَةٌhair
كَأَنَّهاas though it were نَملٌants عَلىon مِسحِcoarse haircloth
Black and hideous, she has hair
Like ants upon coarse haircloth.
فَلَوso if بَدَتshe appeared حاسِرَةًbareheaded فيin الضُحىthe forenoon
لَاِسوَدَّwould surely turn black مِنهاbecause of her فَلَقُthe break of الصُبحِdawn
So if she appeared bareheaded at midmorning,
The break of dawn would surely turn black because of her.
