وَإِذاand if آخَيتَyou befriend مَنsomeone تَقذىyou feel repelled بِهِby him
وَإِذا آخَيتَ مَن تَقذى بِهِ
فَاِطلُبِthen seek الراحَةَrelief مِنهُfrom him وَالدَعَهand ease
فَاِطلُبِ الراحَةَ مِنهُ وَالدَعَه
And if you befriend one who is an eyesore to you,
When you confide in one you hope to find rest in
Then seek relief from him and ease.
Seek comfort from him, do not let him oppress
مَذِقٌa false friend يَلقىmeets أَخاهُhis brother بِالرِضىwith goodwill
مَذِقٌ يَلقى أَخاهُ بِالرِضى
وَإِذاand when ماever (emphasis) غابَhe is absent عَنهُfrom him سَبَعَهhe reviles him
وَإِذا ما غابَ عَنهُ سَبَعَه
A false friend meets his brother with goodwill,
One who greets his brother with acceptance
And whenever his brother is away from him, he reviles him.
And if he is absent does not speak ill of him
