وَنُبِّئتُand I was told كَلباًa dog مِنamong كِلابٍdogs يَسُبُّنيreviles me
وَنُبِّئتُ كَلباً مِن كِلابٍ يَسُبُّني
وَمَرُّand the passing كِلابٍof dogs يَقطَعُinterrupts الصَلَواتِthe prayers
وَمَرُّ كِلابٍ يَقطَعُ الصَلَواتِ
And I was told that a dog among dogs reviles me,
A dog of dogs barking curses at me,
And the passing of dogs interrupts prayers.
And dogs frequently interrupting my prayers,
فَإِنso if أَناI لَمnot أُعلَمinform كِلاباًdogs بِأَنَّهاthat they are
فَإِن أَنا لَم أُعلَم كِلاباً بِأَنَّها
كِلابٌdogs وَأَنّيand that I am باسِلُfierce النَقِماتِacts of vengeance
كِلابٌ وَأَنّي باسِلُ النَقِماتِ
So if I do not inform dogs that they are
If I did not know that they were dogs,
dogs, and that I am fierce in vengeance,
And that I was a resilient and patient man,
فَكانَthen would be إِذَنin that case مِنfrom قَيسِQays عَيلانَʿAylān والِديmy father
فَكانَ إِذَن مِن قَيسِ عَيلانَ والِدي
وَكانَتand would be إِذَنin that case أُمّيmy mother مِنَfrom الحَبِطاتِthe Ḥabiṭāt
وَكانَت إِذَن أُمّي مِنَ الحَبِطاتِ
then my father would be of Qays ʿAylān,
Then my father Qais Ailan was to blame,
and my mother would be of the Ḥabiṭāt.
And my mother would be of the doomed ones.
