وَنُبِّئتُand I was told كَلباًa dog مِنamong كِلابٍdogs يَسُبُّنيinsults me
وَنُبِّئتُ كَلباً مِن كِلابٍ يَسُبُّني
وَمَرُّand the passing كِلابٍof dogs يَقطَعُinterrupts الصَلَواتِthe prayers
وَمَرُّ كِلابٍ يَقطَعُ الصَلَواتِ
And I was told that a dog among dogs insults me;
A dog from among dogs has cursed me,
and the passing of dogs interrupts prayers.
And passing of dogs breaks prayers.
فَإِنso if أَناI لَمnot أُعلَمinform كِلاباًdogs بِأَنَّهاthat they are
فَإِن أَنا لَم أُعلَم كِلاباً بِأَنَّها
كِلابٌdogs وَأَنّيand that I am باسِلُfierce النَقِماتِacts of vengeance
كِلابٌ وَأَنّي باسِلُ النَقِماتِ
So if I do not tell dogs that they are
If I do not recognize that they are
dogs, and that I am fierce in vengeance,
Dogs, and I am slow to take revenge,
فَكانَthen would be إِذَنin that case مِنof قَيسِQays عَيلانَʿAylān والِديmy father
فَكانَ إِذَن مِن قَيسِ عَيلانَ والِدي
وَكانَتand would be إِذَنin that case أُمّيmy mother مِنَof الحَبِطاتِal-Ḥabiṭāt
وَكانَت إِذَن أُمّي مِنَ الحَبِطاتِ
then my father would be of Qays ʿAylān,
It will be because Qais Ailan, my father,
and my mother would then be of al-Ḥabiṭāt.
And my mother are from among the fallen.
