A young man I pinned my hopes on, whose day I hoped would come;
A youth I hoped for and awaited his day
And I feared that a calamity of time might strike him down.
And feared time's events would him betray
فَلَمّاbut when تَبَوّاhe settled مَنزِلَthe abode of اليُسرِease وَالغِنىand wealth

But when he settled in the abode of ease and wealth,
But when eased in wealth's home he came to stay
He dealt my hope in him a back-breaking blow.
My hopes in him were thrown away
