إِنif زُرتَهُyou visit him أَلفَيتَهُyou find him مُتَبَذِّلاًunassuming
إِن زُرتَهُ أَلفَيتَهُ مُتَبَذِّلاً
رَطبَmoist النَدىthe dew (figuratively, generosity) عَشِبَlush الجَنابِthe grounds مَريعاfertile
رَطبَ النَدى عَشِبَ الجَنابِ مَريعا
If you visit him, you find him open and unassuming,
If you visit him, you find him unassuming,
his bounty ever fresh, his manner gentle, rich in plenty;
Moist with dew, his grounds lush and fertile;
مُتَثاقِلاًslow; reluctant عَمّاfrom what يَسوءُdistresses صَديقَهُhis friend
مُتَثاقِلاً عَمّا يَسوءُ صَديقَهُ
وَإِلىand toward الَّتيthat which تُشجيgrieves العَدُوَّthe enemy سَريعاswift
وَإِلى الَّتي تُشجي العَدُوَّ سَريعا
reluctant to do whatever would grieve his friend,
Slow to do what would distress his friend,
yet swift to anything that brings sorrow to the foe.
And swift to do what grieves his enemy.
قَذَفَتhurled بِهِwith him الغَرَضَthe goal البَعيدَdistant مِنَof العُلاglory
قَذَفَت بِهِ الغَرَضَ البَعيدَ مِنَ العُلا
هِمَمٌambitions تَرَكنَthey left طَريقَهُhis path مَتبوعاfollowed
هِمَمٌ تَرَكنَ طَريقَهُ مَتبوعا
Toward glory’s farthest goal have propelled him
He was hurled toward the distant goal of glory
high aspirations that have made his path one others follow.
By ambitions that left his path one others follow.
