وَسارَ بِسَيرِهِ العِلمُ الشَريفُ
Indeed, the son of Musa departed with lofty virtues,
The son of Musa has passed with virtues sublime,
And noble knowledge journeyed with him.
And knowledge most noble marched in his time.
وَتابَعَهُand followed him الهُدىguidance وَالدينُand religion كُلّاًboth

كَما يَتَتَبَّعُ الاِلفَ الأَليفُ
And guidance and religion both followed him,
Guidance and faith followed steadfast his way,
As a devoted companion follows his beloved.
As clinging vines 'round a straight tree entwine.

And we had hoped that he would live
We hoped he would live to lead in the right,
As an imam of guidance, endowed with sound judgment.
A sage Imam of wisdom untold.

You see his quiet bearing and say, 'He is naive,'
In calmness he dwells, yet his stillness conceals
Yet beneath his stillness lies keen judgment.
A mind ever thoughtful, alert and acute.

He has a generous cloud that goes forth each day
Each morn boats set sail with gifts for his door,
Bearing his bounty, and a night-cloud that roams.
While standards encircle his abode.

Then death's decree stilled his wind,
But Fate stilled the winds that fanned his great name,
Though his wind had been a raging gale.
Though once they blew swirling, strong and profuse.

He rests in Tus, with death shrouding him—
In Tus did death find and enfold him in gloom,
A shrine separated from us by a vast distance.
With no friends around him, no kin to amuse.

Say to those who rejoice at our loss: "Gently, wait!
For death spares no man who walks.'
No man who walks upright is spared by his fate."

You exulted to see this dear soul parted us,
The Messenger of God and the upright faith.
Whom the Prophet bewailed as a pillar of faith.
