أَضيافُ سالِمِ في خَفضٍ وَفي دَعَةٍ

أَضيافُ سالِمِ في خَفضٍ وَفي دَعَةٍ

وَفي شَرابٍ وَلَحمٍ غَيرِ مَمنوعِ

وَفي شَرابٍ وَلَحمٍ غَيرِ مَمنوعِ

Salim's guests are in comfort and at ease,

The guests of Salim in tranquility and generosity

And have drink and meat, freely available.

And in drink and meat unrestrained,

وَضَيفُ عَمرٍو وَعَمرٌو يَسهَرانِ مَعاً

وَضَيفُ عَمرٍو وَعَمرٌو يَسهَرانِ مَعاً

عَمرٌو لِبِطنَتِهِ وَالضَيفُ لِلجوعِ

عَمرٌو لِبِطنَتِهِ وَالضَيفُ لِلجوعِ

And Amr's guest and Amr stay awake together:

The guest of Amr and Amr keeping vigil together

Amr because of his overfull belly, and the guest because of hunger.

Amr for his gut and the guest for hunger
