شِفاءُa cure ماthat which لَيسَis not لَهُfor it شِفاءُa cure
عَذراءُa virgin تَختالُstruts proudly بِهاwith it عَذراءُa virgin
A cure for what has no cure:
A cure for what has no cure
A virgin wine with which a maiden struts.
A maiden flaunts her maidenhood
حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen ماan emphatic particle كُشِفَwas lifted الغِطاءُthe covering
وَمَلَكَتand possessed أَحلامَناour minds الصَهباءُthe tawny wine
Until, when the covering was lifted,
Until the veil is lifted
And the tawny wine possessed our minds,
And our white dreams take over
وَخَطبَand sought in marriage الريحَthe wind إِلَيناto us الماءُthe water
جَرىflowed لَناfor us الدَهرُtime بِماaccording to what نَشاءُwe wish
And water asked us for the wind’s hand,
And the wind courts water for us
Time flowed for us as we wished.
Time flows as we desire
