تتابعتِcame one after another الذُّنوبُthe sins فابهظتنيand weighed me down
تتابعتِ الذُّنوبُ فابهظتني
وولَّىand has passed العمرُlife واقتربَand has drawn near الحِمامُdeath
وولَّى العمرُ واقتربَ الحِمامُ
Sins came one after another and weighed me down.
The sins have continuously aggrieved me,
And life has passed, and death has drawn near.
And life has passed as death draws near.
وماand there is no مِنany مهربٍescape فيon الأرضِthe earth مُنجٍthat saves
وما مِن مهربٍ في الأرضِ مُنجٍ
فأطلبُهso I might seek it وقدwhile already عَزَّhas become hard to attain المرامُthe goal
فأطلبُه وقد عَزَّ المرامُ
And there is no escape on earth that can save me,
There is no escape or refuge on earth,
For me to seek, while the goal has grown elusive.
Yet I desire it though it's hard to attain.
فكنتُso I was اذاًthen كعودٍlike an aged camel ذيhaving غِراسٍa foot ailment
فكنتُ اذاً كعودٍ ذي غِراسٍ
ارادَit wished for السَّرحَgoing out to pasture فاحتبسَbut was held back القيامُrising
ارادَ السَّرحَ فاحتبسَ القيامُ
So then I was like an aged camel with sore feet,
So I'm like a planted tree,
That wished to go to pasture, but could not rise.
That wants to leave but is held back from rising.
