ملابسُrobes الافضالbounty فيin طُرَّةِthe forelock of الصُّبحِdawn
ملابسُ الافضال في طُرَّةِ الصُّبحِ
للسَّاهرfor the wakeful one المُعليthe one who aspires high فيin طَلبِthe pursuit of المنحِgifts
للسَّاهر المُعلي في طَلبِ المنحِ
Robes of bounty at dawn's forelock
The robes of favor at dawn's first light
Are for the wakeful one who aspires high in seeking gifts.
For the vigilant seeker of gifts sublime
ياO طالبَseeker of الغُفرانforgiveness
يا طالبَ الغُفران
فيin ساحةِthe courtyard of الرِّفدِbounty
في ساحةِ الرِّفدِ
O seeker of forgiveness,
O seeker of pardon
In the courtyard of bounty,
In the courtyard of grace
معادنَmines of الاحسانgoodness
معادنَ الاحسان
أتيتَyou have come فاستجدِso ask for bounty
أتيتَ فاستجدِ
The mines of goodness
Veins of kindness
You have reached; so ask for bounty.
You came, so persevere
فالمالكُfor the Master المَّنانthe Bestower of favors
فالمالكُ المَّنان
يعفوgrants pardon عنto العبدِthe servant
يعفو عن العبدِ
For the Master, the Bestower of favors,
The Benevolent Angel
Grants pardon to the servant.
Forgives His servant
منin غيرِthe absence of ماany (emphatic) أعمالdeeds أفضىhe has attained الىto ربحgain
من غيرِ ما أعمال أفضى الى ربح
بجودهthrough His generosity الهطلِshowering like rain وسيبهand His bounty السَّحِّstreaming abundantly
بجوده الهطلِ وسيبه السَّحِّ
Without any deeds, he has attained gain,
Without deeds that led to gain
Through His showering generosity and His streaming bounty.
With His rain of grace and ample mercy
انif تَكُthere are حاجاتٌneeds
ان تَكُ حاجاتٌ
حاجبُهاtheir gatekeeper النَّفلُvoluntary devotion
حاجبُها النَّفلُ
If there are needs
If you have needs
Whose gatekeeper is voluntary devotion,
Veiled by supererogation
فثمَّthen there أوقاتٌtimes
فثمَّ أوقاتٌ
يزكوflourishes بهاin them الفِعلُaction
يزكو بها الفِعلُ
Then there are times
Then there are times
In which action flourishes.
When deeds are purified
لِلّهِto God belong ساعاتٌhours
لِلّهِ ساعاتٌ
رذاذُهاtheir drizzle وبلُa downpour
رذاذُها وبلُ
God has hours
God has hours
Whose drizzle is a downpour.
Whose drizzle and downpour
تنشأthey arise عنfrom مِفضالa lavish Giver تُعرفُthey are known بالنَّفحِby breaths of grace
تنشأ عن مِفضال تُعرفُ بالنَّفحِ
عنfrom كاشفٍa dispeller of affliction مُبلِone who brings trials ومانعٍand one who withholds سَمحِgenerous
عن كاشفٍ مُبلِ ومانعٍ سَمحِ
They arise from a lavish Giver and are known by breaths of grace,
Arise from abounding grace, known by its scent
From One who dispels affliction and brings trials, who withholds and gives freely.
From a revealing guide, gentle and clement
ياO غافرَForgiver of الحوبهsin
يا غافرَ الحوبه
مِنfrom بعدafter اكثارِmuch repetition
مِن بعد اكثارِ
O Forgiver of sin,
O Forgiver of sins
After repeated sinning,
After frequent lapses
وقابلَand Accepter of التَّوبهrepentance
وقابلَ التَّوبه
مِنfrom بعدِafter اصرارِpersistence in sin
مِن بعدِ اصرارِ
And Accepter of repentance,
O Accepter of repentance
After persistence in sin,
After stubborn insistence
أتيتكَI have come to You النَّوبهthis time
أتيتكَ النَّوبه
بدمعيwith my tears الجاريflowing
بدمعي الجاري
I have come to You this time
To You I came in remorse
With my flowing tears,
With my flowing tears
مِنfor سوءِthe evil of أفعالdeeds عَدتtransgressed علىagainst صُلحِpeace
مِن سوءِ أفعال عَدت على صُلحِ
بسابقِwith the forerunner of الجهلignorance فيin حَلبةِthe racecourse of المَزحِjest
بسابقِ الجهل في حَلبةِ المَزحِ
For evil deeds that violated peace,
For the ill of deeds, violating accord
With ignorance racing ahead in the racecourse of jest.
With prior ignorance, in the arena of jest
ياO مسعفَHelper of الخائفthe fearful
يا مسعفَ الخائف
بالَطُّولِwith bounty والمنِّand favor
بالَطُّولِ والمنِّ
O Helper of the fearful,
O Succor of the fearful
With bounty and favor,
With infinite clemency
جئتُكَI have come to You استأنِفI begin anew
جئتُكَ استأنِف
طريقةَthe path of اليُمنِblessedness
طريقةَ اليُمنِ
I have come to You to begin anew
I came to resume
The path of blessedness,
The path of prosperity
ومدمعيand my tears واكفfalling
ومدمعي واكف
لماfor what بداappeared مِنّيfrom me
لما بدا مِنّي
And my tears are falling
With my weeping assuaged
For what has emerged from me.
For my transgressions
كلّمنيwounded me الاهمالneglect جرحاًa wound علىupon جُرحيmy wound
كلّمني الاهمال جرحاً على جُرحي
وزادنيand added to me ذليmy abasement قرحاًa sore علىupon قَرحيmy sore
وزادني ذلي قرحاً على قَرحي
Neglect wounded me—a wound upon my wound,
Negligence wounded me, blow upon blow
And my abasement added a sore upon my sore.
And increased my misery, sorrow upon sorrow
بيناwhile أناI قائمstanding
بينا أنا قائم
مقامَin the stance of ذيone with خبلِderangement
مقامَ ذي خبلِ
While I stood
While I stand
In the stance of one deranged,
In confused stupor
ومدمعيand my tears ساجِمstreaming
ومدمعي ساجِم
لزلَّةِfor the slip of النَّعلِthe sandal
لزلَّةِ النَّعلِ
And my tears were streaming
And my tears pour
For the sandal's slip
For a misstep of the sandal
عنaway from طاعةِobedience to الراحمthe Merciful
عن طاعةِ الراحم
الحَكمِthe Judge العِدلِthe Just
الحَكمِ العِدلِ
Away from obedience to the Merciful,
From obeying the Merciful
The Judge, the Just,
The Just Arbiter
قالتsaid ليto me الآمالhopes ظَفِرتyou have attained بالنُّجحِwith success
قالت لي الآمال ظَفِرت بالنُّجحِ
فاللَهfor God ذوpossessor of الفضلِbounty أجدرُreadier بالصَّفحِto pardon
فاللَه ذو الفضلِ أجدرُ بالصَّفحِ
Hopes said to me, "You have attained success;
Hope told me, you attained success
For God, the Lord of bounty, is readier to pardon."
For God, of abundant favor, is worthiest to pardon
