O refuge of the one who hopes in you when he flees
O refuge of the refugee, in his place of escape,
To you from you, amid anxiety that frustrates and torments him.
To You from it with the burden of worries oppressing him,

بكَ استعاذَ فنعمَ المستعاذُ بهِ
He came to you seeking hope despite the despair within him.
He came to You hoping despite despair with You for hope,
He sought refuge in you—how excellent a refuge you are!
With You he sought refuge, so excellent is the refuge sought in You,

At your spacious door his wishes have taken shelter
At Your spacious door his needs have taken refuge,
From a deadly peril that drove him from the door of his desire.
From destruction You have protected him from the door of his desire,

So do not disappoint a hope whose paths have been barred
So do not disappoint a hope, its ways are blocked,
To anyone but you, for this is his very path.
From other than You, for this is the essence of its way,

مُطَرَّدٌ بطلوبِ الدَّهرِ مُدأَبهِ
Is there any might beyond yours in which refuge can be sought
Is there honor after Your honor that one would seek refuge in it,
By one hounded by time's relentless pursuit, which wears him down?
Expelled by the misfortunes of time ever binding him,

When, and who could that be? Neither time nor king
When and who else and no time and no sovereign,
Can confer the heart's might upon its turner [wording uncertain].
That would honor the honor of the heart tossing about.
