يا ملكاً قد جمّلَ العَصرا

يا ملكاً قد جمّلَ العَصرا

وفاق أملاكَ الوَرى طُرّا

وفاق أملاكَ الوَرى طُرّا

O king who has adorned the age,

O king who adorned the epoch,

And surpassed all the kings of humankind,

And surpassed the kings of the world in flight,

وفاتَ في نائلهِ حاتِماً

وفاتَ في نائلهِ حاتِماً

وبذَّ في اقدامهِ عَمرا

وبذَّ في اقدامهِ عَمرا

And outstripped Hatim in his bounty,

You outdid Hatim in generosity,

And bested Amr in his boldness,

And trampled over great men in your steps.

وباكَرَ العلياءَ فافتضّها

وباكَرَ العلياءَ فافتضّها

وكانتِ الناهِدَةَ البِكرا

وكانتِ الناهِدَةَ البِكرا

And sought high glory early and deflowered her,

You picked the ripe fruits early,

While she was a full-breasted virgin.

Plucking the virgin buds.

أما تَرى الدّهرَ وقد جاءنا

أما تَرى الدّهرَ وقد جاءنا

مستقبلاً بالبِشرِ والبُشرى

مستقبلاً بالبِشرِ والبُشرى

Do you not see Time, now that it has come to us,

Do you not see time coming to us,

Greeting us with cheer and good tidings,

With good news and tidings?

يجري لدينا ما أتانا بهِ

يجري لدينا ما أتانا بهِ

أحسن وأكرم بالذي أجَرى

أحسن وأكرم بالذي أجَرى

Pouring out among us what it has brought?

It brings us what came to us,

How excellent and generous is the one who made it flow!

The best and most generous that has come.

العيدُ والنَيرُوزُ في حالةٍ

العيدُ والنَيرُوزُ في حالةٍ

وطلعةُ المنصورِ والنّصرا

وطلعةُ المنصورِ والنّصرا

Eid and Nowruz fall together,

The feast and Nairuz are in a state,

And the appearance of al-Mansur, and victory.

And the rise of al-Mansur and victory.

والأرضُ قد تاهت به واغتدت

والأرضُ قد تاهت به واغتدت

تختالُ في حُلِّتها الخَضرا

تختالُ في حُلِّتها الخَضرا

And the earth has gloried in him and begun

The land was lost in it and revived,

To strut in her green robe.

Strutting in its green dress.

عبّستِ السّحبُ على نَورِها

عبّستِ السّحبُ على نَورِها

فراحَ ثغرُ النَّورِ مُفتراً

فراحَ ثغرُ النَّورِ مُفتراً

The clouds frowned over her blossoms,

The clouds frowned over its light,

So the blossoms’ mouth opened in a smile.

So the mouth of light smiled broadly.

الصّومُ قد ولّى بآلامهِ

الصّومُ قد ولّى بآلامهِ

والفِطرُ باللّذّاتِ قد كرا

والفِطرُ باللّذّاتِ قد كرا

The fast has departed with its pains,

Fasting has passed with its pains,

And fast-breaking has returned with delights.

And breaking the fast with pleasures multiplied.

فانهض بِلا مطلٍ ولا فترةٍ

فانهض بِلا مطلٍ ولا فترةٍ

نرتشفِ المشمولةَ الخمرا

نرتشفِ المشمولةَ الخمرا

So rise without delay or slackening;

So rise up without delay or idleness,

Let us sip the wine chilled by the north wind.

Let us sip the mixed wine.

حِيريّةٌ قد عُتّقُت حِقبَةً

حِيريّةٌ قد عُتّقُت حِقبَةً

فأقبلت تخبرُ عن كِسرَى

فأقبلت تخبرُ عن كِسرَى

A wine from al-Hira, aged for a long time,

A Hiraan woman freed from captivity,

So it came forth, telling of Kisra.

Came to tell of Khosrow.

واستجلها صفراءَ قُدسيّةً

واستجلها صفراءَ قُدسيّةً

تَحسبُها في كأسِها تِبرا

تَحسبُها في كأسِها تِبرا

And unveil it, yellow and sacred;

And she imagined the golden Jerusalem wine,

You would take it, in its cup, for unworked gold,

To be dust in her cup.

أو ذَوبَ جمرٍ حلّ في جامِد ال

أو ذَوبَ جمرٍ حلّ في جامِد ال

ماءِ فأبدى فوقهُ دُرّا

ماءِ فأبدى فوقهُ دُرّا

Or molten embers lodged in solidified

Or embers melted in solid water,

Water, revealing pearls above it.

Displaying pearls above it.

وباكرِ اللّذّةَ في حِينها

وباكرِ اللّذّةَ في حِينها

وقُم بنا ننتهبُ العُمرا

وقُم بنا ننتهبُ العُمرا

And seek pleasure early, at its proper time,

And enjoy pleasure in its time,

And rise with us: let us plunder life,

And rise, we will plunder lives.

في دوحةٍ أُترجُّها يانعٌ

في دوحةٍ أُترجُّها يانعٌ

يلوحُ في الأغصانِ مُصفرّا

يلوحُ في الأغصانِ مُصفرّا

In a grove whose citrons are ripe,

In an orchard I perfume, whose saplings

Gleaming yellow among the branches;

Appear yellow in the branches.

كأنّهُ اذ لاحَ في دوحِها

كأنّهُ اذ لاحَ في دوحِها

وجهُ سماءٍ أطلعت زَهرا

وجهُ سماءٍ أطلعت زَهرا

As though, when they gleam within its trees,

As if when it appeared in its meadow,

They were the face of a sky that has put forth blossoms.

It was the face of a sky that rose as a flower.

واسلم ودُم في عيشةٍ رغدةٍ

واسلم ودُم في عيشةٍ رغدةٍ

تُبلي على جِدّتِها الدّهرا

تُبلي على جِدّتِها الدّهرا

And stay safe, and live on in a life of ease,

And be safe and live in abundant comfort,

That wears out Time while remaining fresh.

That makes time age on its firmness.
