بأبي أهيفٌ إذا رمت منه
لثمَa kiss ثَغرٍa mouth يصُدُّنيhe turns me away عنfrom مَراميmy desire
لثمَ ثَغرٍ يصُدُّني عن مَرامي
May my father be ransom for a slender-waisted youth! Whenever I seek from him
By him in whom my soul is a prisoner, if she flees
a kiss upon his mouth, he turns me away from my desire.
I'd kiss the lips that bar me from my hopes.

He has protected his cheek with a wall of down;
Though she's veiled her cheek in virtuous wrath,
his two eyes have become arrow-slits upon it.
Still to that cheek my wishes roam.
