If the praiseworthy sun of the sciences sets

    beyond the heart's sight, that sight nearly goes blind;

and the veil of ignorance bars its penetration,

so it encounters the expanse of knowledge, shooting but not being shot at.

Nor do we suppose that our sun's light

will vanish, revealing a wound in our inner sight.

So if the days decree its absence,

we shall weep, and its beholder's inner eye-corner will begin to bleed.

So, O you who lent the sun the light of your perfection,

and gave it knowledge from the knowledge of your splendor,

bestow your favor upon our minds with its radiance,

so that your light may show us quality and quantity,

and how the substratum of its substance is seen through it,

and in relations, you do not see yourself named by them,

and in action or in being acted upon, making matters clear—

and you are worthy to answer concerning the greatest matter.
