When the headlong Mahri camels set forth with a company,

bound for God's House, walking on foot,

the Mahri camels of thought bore me through the wilderness of piety

to God, Lord of the House, racing over the summits.

thus rescuing the ears of intellects from deafness.

It is indeed what heals, when it pours down abundantly

upon a cultivated heart, freeing it from the affliction of muteness.

and has never ceased to be touched through certain knowledge.

the covering of powers from that broad shoulder.

seeking Safa, He purified the deep watering-place for her.

to a King whose torrent of gifts is abundant.

And at Arafat, insights revealed to her

that, through her knowing, knowledge's dawning was hers.

And as she cast pebbles from her Jamra-heaps,

she came, after fear of the insubstantial, into the peace of peace.

with disgrace; there she neither regretted nor bled.

Robes of understanding flow, by the hand of reason,

over her, from the outpouring cloaked in wisdom.

And she returned for the circumambulation of visitation, hoping,

through her resolve, for the reward of seeking blessings through lofty resolves.

That, then, is the pilgrimage that is the ultimate goal

for whoever takes refuge at the divine gate and holds fast.
