ياO ملكاًa king حلَّsettled in قلبيmy heart مِنfrom جلالتِهhis majesty
نورٌa light تأَلَّقَshone فيهِwithin it بَعدَafter إيماضِa flash
O king, from whose majesty there settled in my heart
a light that shone within it after a flash.
فسارَso it journeyed يطلبُit seeks نورَthe light of النُّورِthe light مهتدياًguided
بنورِby the light of نورٍa light منamong الأَنوارِthe lights فيّاضِoverflowing
So it journeyed, seeking the light of light, guided
by the light of a light overflowing among the lights.
قَضىhe decreed ليfor me الخيرِgood بعدَafter الشَّرِevil محتكماًacting as arbiter
أَعدِلhow just! بمحتكمٍis an arbiter فيregarding عبدِهhis servant قاضِa judge
He decreed good for me after evil, acting as arbiter;
how just an arbiter, judging his servant!
بهِin him تعوَّضتُI found recompense لاnot أَبغيI seek بهfor him عِوَضاًa substitute
وهلand is there? لهfor him عِوَضٌa substitute يُرجَىhoped for لمعتاضِfor one seeking recompense
In him I found recompense; I seek no substitute for him.
And is there a substitute for him that one seeking recompense could hope for?
أَنتَyou الذيthe one who لوif قلانيloathed me الناسُthe people كلُّهمُall of them
وأَعرضواand they turned away عنfrom وداديmy affection كلَّall إعراضِturning away
You are the one—even if all people loathed me
and turned utterly away from my affection,
وكانَand were ذِكرُكَremembrance of you نُصبيmy focus لاnot يُزايلُنيleaves me
مستقبلُthe future الحظِّthe share مِنfrom نجواهُits intimate converse كالماضيlike the past
and remembrance of you were my focus, never leaving me,
the future share of its intimate converse like the past,
لكنتُI would be إذwhen ذاكَthat فيin حالٍa state أَضُنُّI am loath to part بهاwith it
إِنّيindeed I بأنسكَwith your companionship عنinstead of أُنسيmy companionship بهمwith them راضِcontent
I would then be in a state I would jealously cherish:
indeed, I am content with your company instead of theirs.
