God’s peace be upon you, O best of messengers.
Peace of Allah be upon you, O best of Messengers,
Clear revelation came to him from the best Sender.
The clear revelation came to him from the best Sender,

Toward you we mounted sturdy she-camels, striding swiftly,
To you we rode the mounts aspiring,
Traversing the wilderness between Raḍwā and Yadhbul.
So the flowers would smile in your pleasure and wilt in your disdain,
إلىto خيرِthe best منthose whom أطرتهُextolled him بالمدحِwith praise ألسُنٌtongues

To the best of those whom tongues have extolled in praise,
To the best of those whose praise glorified tongues,
And the text of the revealed Book confirmed their praise.
So the verses of the revealed Book verified them,

Before you, O Messenger of God, I stood faltering in speech,
Before you, Messenger of Allah, I stood tongue-tied,
And my tongue had grown weary under the weight of eloquence.
As my words fell short of eloquence’s burden,
وأدهشنيand awed me نورٌa light تألّقَgleamed مشرقاًradiantly

And a light awed me, gleaming radiantly,
And a light dazzled me, radiantly shining,
Shining from on high upon your lofty tomb.
Beaming from atop your lofty shrine,
ثنتنيheld me back عنfrom مدحيmy praise لمجدِكَfor your glory هيبةٌawe

I was held back from praising your glory by awe,
Awe of your glory’s grandeur deterred me from praise,
Which frightens my heart and makes my tongue tremble,
Making my heart tremble and joints quake,
وعلميand my knowledge بأنَّthat اللَهGod أعطاكَgave you مِدحةًpraise

And by my knowledge that God bestowed praise upon you,
And my knowledge that Allah endowed you with eulogy,
Its details contained in the concise passages of al-Mufaṣṣal.
Whose details are in the umm al-kitaab's lines,
فماذاso what يقولُsay المادحونَthose who praise بمدحِهمin their praise
لِمنfor one who مدحُهُpraise of him يعلوrises علىabove كلّevery مُعتلِexalted one
So what can those who praise say in their praise
What then can praisers say with their praises,
For one whose praise rises above every exalted one?
To one whose praise ascends above all sublime?
