أَبلِغtell نَعيماًNuaym وَأَوفىand Awfa إِنif لَقيتَهُماyou meet them both
أَبلِغ نَعيماً وَأَوفى إِن لَقيتَهُما
إِنif لَمnot يَكُنbe كانَhad been فيin سَمعَيهِماthe hearing of them both صَمَمُdeafness
إِن لَم يَكُن كانَ في سَمعَيهِما صَمَمُ
Bear word to Nuʿaym and Awfā, if you meet them,
Tell Nuaym and Awfa, if you meet them both,
unless deafness has settled in the hearing of both.
if deafness has not settled in their ears:
فَماfor … is not أَخيmy brother بِأَخيa brother of سَوءٍevil فَيَنقُصَهُso as to diminish him
فَما أَخي بِأَخي سَوءٍ فَيَنقُصَهُ
إِذاwhen تَقارَبَdraws close بِاِبنِto the son of الصادِرِal-Sadir القِسمُthe allotted share
إِذا تَقارَبَ بِاِبنِ الصادِرِ القِسمُ
My brother was no man of baseness, that it should diminish him
For my brother is no base brother to be belittled,
when allotted fate closed in upon Ibn al-Ṣādir.

وَلَنand will not يَزالَcease شِهاباًa blazing flame يُستَضاءُlight is sought بِهِby him
وَلَن يَزالَ شِهاباً يُستَضاءُ بِهِ
يَهديhe guides المَقانِبَcavalry bands ماas long as لَمnot تَهلِكِperish الصِمَمُstalwart men
يَهدي المَقانِبَ ما لَم تَهلِكِ الصِمَمُ
He shall never cease to be a blazing star whose light is sought,
And he will remain a blazing flame whose light is sought,
guiding the cavalry bands so long as the dauntless have not perished.

عاريbare الأَشاجِعِthe knuckles مَعصوبٌbound بِلُمَّتِهِto his locks
عاري الأَشاجِعِ مَعصوبٌ بِلُمَّتِهِ
أَمرُthe charge الزَعامَةِof leadership فيin عِرنينِهِhis nasal bridge شَمَمُa lofty rise
أَمرُ الزَعامَةِ في عِرنينِهِ شَمَمُ
His knuckles stood bare; to his locks was bound
Lean-knuckled, bound to his locks
the charge of leadership; in his high-bridged nose was proud loftiness.
