صُدورَthe breasts of الخَيلِthe horses وَالأَسَلِand the spears النِياعاthe swaying ones
By the life of the sons of Shihab, they did not hold steady
By the life of Bani Shihab, they did not stay
The horses' breasts and the swaying spears.
The chests of horses and the wailing of companions.
وَلَكِنَّنيbut I كَرَرتُcharged back بِفَضلِby virtue of قَوميmy people
فَجُدتُso I gave generously بِنِعمَةٍwith a favor وَحَوَيتُand I gained باعاa span (of honor)
But I charged back by virtue of my people,
But I have often, through the merit of my people,
So I bestowed a favor and gained a span of honor.
Found blessing and encompassed a need.
وَذَلِكَand that فِعلُناour way فيamong كُلِّevery حَيٍّtribe
وَنَنتَجِعُand we seek pasture in الأَقاصِيَّthe farthest reaches اِنتِجاعاseeking pasture
And such is our way among every tribe,
That is what we do in every quarter,
And to the farthest reaches we journey in search of pasture.
And we seek the furthest parts seeking refuge.
