فَإِنso if تَنجُyou escape يَدمىbleed عارِضاكَyour two cheeks فَإِنَّناthen indeed we
فَإِن تَنجُ يَدمى عارِضاكَ فَإِنَّنا
تَرَكناwe left بَنيكَyour sons لِلضِباعِfor the hyenas وَلِلرَخمِand for the vultures
تَرَكنا بَنيكَ لِلضِباعِ وَلِلرَخمِ
So if you escape with both cheeks bleeding, then we
Though you escape while Fortune's blows still miss,
Have left your sons for the hyenas and vultures.
We left your sons to jackals and to worms,
جَزَيتُI repaid عَياضاًIyad كُفرَهُhis ingratitude وَعُقوقَهُand his disloyalty
جَزَيتُ عَياضاً كُفرَهُ وَعُقوقَهُ

وَأَخرَجتُهُ مِنَ المُدفَأَةِ الدَهمِ
I repaid Iyad for his ingratitude and disloyalty,
I paid Ayadh back for his misdeeds and sins,
And drove him from the teeming herds of black camels.
And from the fiery furnace cast him out.

Listen—has word reached him of how we assailed their chiefs,
Does he not know what happened when we marched
And of the choice milch camels and breeding camel stallions they have hamstrung?
Against his clans, and broke their spears and swords?
