1. With my beloved gazelle I flirted
Between al-Udayb and the glistening shore

2. And asked of him a visit to soothe my longing
He answered me with a truthful promise

3. We met as we were lost in the darkness
And stars like flowers beneath a canopy

4. I gave him as the night dragged its tail
Pale as refined musk to one who sniffs

5. And held him tight as my sleeve to his sword
His cheeks resting on my shoulders

6. Until when old age took him
I pushed him away though he clung to me

7. I sent him away from ribs that long for him
Lest he sleeps on a throbbing pillow

8. When I saw the night nearing its end
Graying at the edges and leaving

9. I bid farewell to my love and sadly said
Honor me by parting from me
