1. I have ambitions that will cast me into lands,
Whether I come to Iraq or Syria,

2. And the truth of the Arabs is ascendance,
Through them, and I excel in praising their concern,

3. So that the riders may carry my poetry,
Through the valley of Tilh or the valley of Al-Khuzama,

4. And so the eloquent may know that I
Am an orator who taught pigeons to coo,

5. And I have revealed to them in every land,
Homes that do not lack perfection,

6. So I did not lack enviers among them,
Just as a beautiful woman never lacks a critic.
