1. Radiance and beauty do not veil mankind
From generosity of temperament and comely form

Concealment of his brilliant light

3. In every horizon of his beauty
Yazeed was known over smoke of ember

4. Like a rose in his traits and rose in his kindness
Between the garden and the raining cloud

5. A full moon upon him of dignity a calm
Wherein lies guarded every drowsy lion

6. Like a sword when sheathed in its scabbard
Casting awe into the souls of the sedentary

7. I grew on the waving, bending branch for he
Gave as he gave and was not miserly

8. I took pity on the turbulent, roaring sea for in
Every handful of it lies five oceans

9. I came seeking your generosity for it
Aims at the cloud or rather the clear kawthar

10. And I saw the face of success with you also
So I rode to you on every green barge

11. Sailing to you in a drunken ship
Like a camel with nostril slit

12. And the twisted-legged daughters of al-Auj
Who accompanied me across the barren waste

13. Barren as the bereft in his condition
Why obliterate when this was not cultivated
