هلا سألت هداك الله ما حسبي

1. Should I ask if God has guided you, what is my worth
In the eyes of the slanderer when rage reddens the eyes

١. هَلا سأَلتِ هَداكِ اللَه ما حَسبي
عِندَ الطِعانِ إِذا ما احمرَّتِ الحَدَقُ

2. And the horses march with the brave heroes
Their forelocks disheveled, whiteness shining upon them

٢. وَجالتِ الخَيلُ بالأَبطالِ مُعلَمَةً
شعثَ النَواصي عليها البيضُ تأتلِقُ

3. Shall I leave the spear rusted while I tend to it
Its garb soiled from its inner syrup

٣. هَل أَتركُ القِرنَ مصفرّا أَنامِلُهُ
قَد بَلَّ أَثوابَهُ من جوفِه العَلَقُ

4. And I have marched ahead of the living one who bears me
The swaying of the litters in their carriages creaking

٤. وَقَد غَدوت أَمامَ الحيِّ يحمِلني
نَهدُ المَراكِلِ في أَقرابِه بَلَقُ

5. Until I attain every glory upon him
When the weak and foolish turn away from it

٥. حَتّى أَنالَ عليه كُلَّ مَكرُمَةٍ
إِذا تَضجَّعَ عَنها الواهِنُ الحَمِقُ
