2. For many a lord awakes the Trojans, in haste,
Frightened, forced to retreat.

3. Diomedes heard her voice, then mounted
His horse and rapped it with the whip,

4. And they flew to the fray. The Lord of Light
Watched their movements closely.

5. The scout failed to turn Diomedes back.
He charged furiously, striking fear.

6. Euphemus, of the Race of Rhesus, warned
His comrades immediately.

7. He saw the chaos that had come to pass,
And called to Rhesus, his friend in woe.

8. The people were drenched in blood before them,
Their tethered horses neighing.

9. The Trojans fell amidst their clamor,
Terrified by what they saw and heard.

10. They feared the onslaught with which the foe
Attacked and turned towards the fleet by night.

11. When Diomedes and Odysseus heard
About the loot that had been seized and stored,

12. The son of Tydeus took it up, and rode
Swiftly to Odysseus to hand it over.

13. Then he mounted, whipped the horses on,
And the road carried it to the people.
