3. And win the highest honor, as he goes
To spy out on the enemies, seeking news-

4. Are they still wakeful, as they're wont to be,
Or has dismay now bowed them down, broken?

5. Has blindness made them stay, though they disdained
To rest, relying on escape for hope?
