1. She was amazed at my garment when she wove it,
As she chose the heavy brocade.
١. عَجِبَت مِن بِزَّتي إِذ أخلَقَت
وَهيَ تَجتَابُ الحَبِيرَ المُغدَفَا
2. Do not be amazed at this,
For before it was clad in pearls and shells.
٢. هَذِهِ لا تَعجَبِي من هَذِهِ
قَبلَهَا أُلبِسَ دُرٌّ صَدَفَا
3. Do not think time has stripped me,
Rather it has undressed me of finery.
٣. لا تَظُنِّي الدَّهرَ لِي مُستَلِباً
إِنَّما جَرَّدَ مِنِّي مُرهَفَا
4. The water that filled her cheeks
Old age has dried until vanished.
٤. إنَّ ماءً كان في وَجنَتِها
وَرَدَتهُ السِّنُّ حَتَّى نشَفا
5. The anemones on her fingers withered,
Yet the nights restored them blooming.
٥. وَذَوَى العُنَّابُ من أَنمُلِها
فَأَعَادَتهُ اللَّيالي حَشَفا
