With my soul I would ransom her whose eyelids have bewitched me.

And as she sways, she puts the branches of the naqāḥīn to shame.

And when her longing to visit me overwhelmed her,

Without an appointment she came and said, "You have bewitched me.

And my jewelry whispered, and sleep defied my eyelid.

And the nose-ring crept over my lips and startled me.

And my necklace's cord clasped hands with my breast and undid me.

How, then, could I resist, when passion gave me no release?

And my anklet kissed the arch of my foot, and I was enticed

By my sash; and the earring resounded all night against my ear."
