ولقد جمعت بخالها خلخالها

Why does she display her coquetry toward me?

Why does she show affection towards me

And I have indeed joined her anklet to her beauty mark.

When she has collected her anklets with her bracelets

أنى تعارض من تملك حسنها

أنى تعارض من تملك حسنها

وجنى مباسمها وقبل خالها

وجنى مباسمها وقبل خالها

How can she rival one who has possessed her beauty

How can she seek me when she possesses beauty

And the fruit of her smiling lips, and kissed her beauty mark?

And the harvest of her smiles and the moles on her cheeks

ما عاقني عن شوطها خالٌ ولا

ما عاقني عن شوطها خالٌ ولا

عمٌ ولا واش يعدّ وصالها

عمٌ ولا واش يعدّ وصالها

No maternal uncle kept me from her course, nor

No mole or blindness or backbiter deterred me

A paternal uncle, nor a talebearer counting her trysts.

From taking the path to her union

ان فاخرت بكرامةٍ فأنا ابنها

ان فاخرت بكرامةٍ فأنا ابنها

أو فضل معجزةٍ فخل مقالها

أو فضل معجزةٍ فخل مقالها

If she boasts of honor, I am its son;

If she boasts of nobility, then I am its son

Or of a miracle’s excellence, then leave her claim aside.

Or the grace of miracles, so her speech is empty

لكن أتت بمديح أكرم ماجدٍ

لكن أتت بمديح أكرم ماجدٍ

فأجازها كرم الصفات جمالها

فأجازها كرم الصفات جمالها

But she came bearing praise of the most generous of noble men,

But she came with praise for a generous glorious one

So the nobility of his qualities bestowed her beauty upon her.

So the nobility of traits rewarded her beauty
